Fun Fourth Ideas that are low stress and involve the kids in the fun.
As I was decorating the house for the upcoming fourth of July holiday the boys kept tugging at me to go play outside, make a snack and let them help decorate all at the same time.
So what did I do…I said “Okay, let’s do that”. You pick your battles sometimes, and the house decor could wait.
Fun Fourth Ideas
We went outside and I broke out the sidewalk chalk. Then that little crafty hamster in my brain got to running on it’s wheel. I drew out some fun photo props on the driveway and we had lots of fun being silly and goofy taking pictures.
Sidewalk Chalk Photo Props
I think these would look great for a party invite, or even just a cute photograph of the kids for sending to family and friends.
Now, after all that coloring and sun bathing we needed food and some cool air conditioning. We went inside to have some lunch, and got started on a fun simple patriotic treat.
Patriotic Crispy Treat Stars
- 12 cups rice crispy cereal
- 9 cups mini marshmallows
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- Red and Blue food coloring
- Red melted chocolate wafers (optional)
Divide first three ingredients by 3 for each color (Red, White and Blue).
Using three saucepans, put 3 Tablespoons of butter, and 3 cups of mini marshmallows in each pan. Add red food coloring to one pan. Blue food coloring to another. Warm over low heat and stir until all marshmallows are melted and liquid smooth.
Using three bowls, put 4 cups of rice crispy cereal in each bowl. Slowly add each pan of melted marshmallow mixture to each bowl. Stirring slowly until fully combined.
Grease a large pan 9×13 pan. Using a buttered spatula press each color firmly into the pan. I then laid a piece of wax paper on top and using a roller to compact.
Let sit 30 minutes or so until cool and set. Flip over the pan on wax paper and release the dessert. Use a star cutter to cut out shapes from different areas. I then melted some red chocolate wafers in the microwave and applied to the top of each treat.
These 10 Minute Dark Chocolate Cherry Tarts are another great easy sweet treat for the fourth of July holiday.
I would call the day a great success. The home decorating was put off, but the fun didn’t stop and we made some fun memories. If you still need to get some quick home decorating done for Independence Day, I have a free printable for you.
